What is Retina Review

What was published, what matters, and why

Every quarter, more than a thousand papers on the retina are published: clinical trials, imaging studies, surgical technique, genetics, pharmacotherapy. Nobody can read them all.

Retina Review reads the literature for you. Our editorial board selects the papers of real clinical or scientific importance, and a specialist in the field writes a short commentary on each: what the study found, how strong the evidence is, and what it means for your patients.

Each issue is published as a PDF. Every commentary and abstract is also online, searchable and linked to the original article. Retina Review is open access, made possible by our sponsors.

    Each quarter, the newly published retinal literature is retrieved from PubMed.

  2. AI-assisted screening

    Every abstract is screened and likely candidates are flagged for the editorial board.

    The editorial board selects the papers of real clinical or scientific importance.

  4. Expert commentary

    A specialist in the field writes a short commentary on each paper.

  5. Publication

    The Kugler team edits and typesets the issue, online and as a PDF.

Published by Kugler Publications

Retina Review is published by Kugler Publications, the Amsterdam-based specialist publisher in ophthalmology. Kugler also produces International Glaucoma Review, the journal of the World Glaucoma Association, on which the Retina Review format builds.

Retina Review is run by an editorial board led by Managing Editor George Lambrou MD, whose career in ophthalmology spans glaucoma and retina, including roles at Bayer and Novartis. The members of the editorial board will be announced ahead of the first issue.
